PURPOSE:To produce excellent-quality quartz glass at good yield with high productivity by pulverizing a fine particulate glass raw material which is obtained by heat-treating water dispersion and thereafter redispersing it in pure water and introducing it into a forming mold to mold a base material for glass. CONSTITUTION:A fine particulate glass raw material is produced by dispersing a fine powdery glass raw material in pure water to prepare the dispersion of the glass raw material and heat-treating this dispersion. Then after pulverizing this fine particulate glass raw material, it is uniformly dispersed in pure water to prepare redispersed liquid of the glass raw material. Thereafter this redispersed liquid is introduced into a forming mold to mold the aimed glass base material. Since the above-mentioned respective processes in this production consists of a means such as agitation, heat treatment, pulverizing and molding, such technical difficulty that skillfulness is necessitated is eliminated and the need for process control accompanied with high-degree atmospheric control is also eliminated. Especially, since striae observed in the vapor phase reaction method is not caused and a binder is not used in the process for molding the glass base material, the quartz glass base material can be produced at good yield. |
