The compound of the general formula

in which, independently of one another,
R<1> denotes hydrogen or an oxo group,
R<2> denotes methyl or 1-hydroxyethyl,
R<3> denotes hydrogen, methyl or rhamnosyloxycarbonyl and
R<4> denotes hydrogen, 2-hydroxypropyl, acetoxy or methyl,
where the bonds between C1 and C2 and C3 and C4 can be double bonds,
can be prepared from various Streptomycetes species, and have pharmacological action, in particular antibiotic action.
