PURPOSE:A carbon fiber reinforced composite having excellent heat resistance, water resistance, mechanical characteristics, and moldability, suitable as a structural material for aircraft, etc., obtained by using a polyphenylquinoxaline resin of specified constitution as the matrix resin. CONSTITUTION:A polyphenylquinoxaline resin of the formula is dissolved in a solvent (e.g. N-methylpyrrolidone), with which carbon fibers are impregnated to prepare prepreg. A plurality of plies of this prepreg are laid in a mold and press molded to give the objective carbon fiber reinforced composite. The polyphenylquinoxaline resin shown by the formula is obtained by dissolving equimolar amounts of 3,3',4,4'-tetraaminodiphenyl sulfone and P-bis(phenylglyoxalyl)benzene in m-cresol to cause to react, pouring the reaction mixture into methyl alcohol and separating precipitated resin by filtration. |
