PURPOSE: To obtain a thymol-containing composition containing both a sugar alcohol and anethole, having a good taste, effectively masked the unpleasant, irritable and medicine-like taste of the thymol, and capable of being used for oral hygienic preparations such as mouth rinses. CONSTITUTION: This composition masked the unpleasant taste of thymol is obtained by adding a sugar alcohol (e.g. sorbitol, xylitol) and anethole to thymol in a sugar alcohol : thymol ratio of (2750-200):1 and in an anethole : thymol ratio of (0.1-1.75):1 to the thymol. The sugar alcohol, the anethole and the thymol are preferably contained in amounts of 28-32wt.%, 0.018-0.022wt.% and 0.05-0.075wt.%, respectively, based on the whole amount of the final composition. An essential oil such as menthol or methyl salicylate may be added in addition to the thymol.
