Tracked vehicles, such as those fitted with rubber caterpillar tracks, can easily be affected by dangerous skidding on frozen surfaces unless suitable measures are taken. Such measures include the fitting of ice spikes in the rubber caterpillar tracks. Such an ice spike comprises a rubber body 10, 10a, 10b in which a steel spike 13, with a sharp point 13a and a retaining bend 14, is embedded; a metal plate D fixed within the rubber caterpillar track; at least one hole 15 in this plate which passes through the caterpillar track; and a tube- shaped housing 11 fixed firmly in the hole and effectively at right angles to the plate. The steel spike 13 is fixed firmly in the housing 11 via its point 13a, and the point is designed to protrude from the track to make contact with the surface on which the vehicle is moving. The retaining bend 14 is integrated with the housing 11 and passes into a recess B1 in the caterpillar track. <IMAGE> |
