PURPOSE:To provide a wire rod for a covered electrode having improved arc stability and operability without generating foam in continuous casting even if the amt. of oxygen is increased by decreasing the content of C in the compsn. and increasing the content of Mn in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A wire rod for a coated electrode consisting of <=0.01wt% C, <=0.05% Si, 0.3-1.0% Mn, 200-500ppm O, and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities. The strength of said material is made up by an increase in Mn, and the content of C is decreased to the extent of obviating generation of foam even if the amt. of oxygen is increased. Casting to form a blank material for the wire rod is thus made possible by continuous casting. The wire rod is free from rod burn and has excellent arc stability. |
