COMMUTATOR ASSEMBLY FOR A DC TRACTION MOTOR

A commutator assembly including a cylindrical spider having a central elongated portion and a clamping surface at one end thereof. A plurality of elongated commutator bars form a cylindrical bar cluster having an internal cylindrical opening for receiving the central portion of the spider. Each bar has a riser portion extending radially outward from the bar. A clamping element for clamping the cluster against the clamping surface of the spider. The commutator bars each include an axial projection at one end having a shoulder axially adjacent the riser portion for abutting the clamping surface of the spider.
