Coupling between trailer and towing vehicle - has play eliminated by automatic clamping device

The coupling connects a trailer to a towing vehicle. It has a mechanism to eliminate play between the two parts of the couplings (K). The coupling body (10) has a pin (12) which can slide vertically in an attached housing (14) and engages the eye (28) of the tow-bar (20). The tow-bar (20) is clamped against the pin (12) by a clamp (32) attached to one end of a rod (30) which has its other end attached to a piston (36) which operates in a cylinder (38). When the brake pipes are connected between the towing vehicle and the trailer the cylinder (38) is connected to the compressed air supply. The compressed air acts on the piston (36) and clamps the coupling. When the brake pipes are disconnected, the air supply is shut off and the clamp is automatically released.
