The appts. to centre and clamp hollow cylindrical bodies, esp. tubes and ring sections with wall thicknesses of 5-30 mm and lengths of 2.5-3.0 m, has an inner ring (2) and an outer ring (1) which can be rotated relative to each other to take hollow bodies (14,15) of different dias.. Swing clamps (3) with clamping pads (12) are distributed round the circumference of the outer (1) or inner (2) ring at an acute angle to the radial connecting lines of the mounting points to the centre of the ring assembly, located between the rings. A guide curve is at the outer (1) or inner (2) ring, for each clamp, away from the pivot point of each clamp, to be secured by a gripping bolt (11) on the ring where the clamp does not swing. A drive rotates the outer ring (1) against the inner ring (2) and, in one direction of rotation, all the clamps (3) within the centre section of the ring assembly bear on the mantle (13) of the hollow body (14) on all sides. On rotation in the other direction all the clamps (3) swing clear. ADVANTAGE - The appts. can hold and position large hollow bodies to be welded together to form vessels, with bodies of different dias.. and even taperings, to butt them together or slide them concentrically within each other.
