The process comprises using a dilute soln. of hydrochloric acid (one part per four parts of water). This utilises the properties of the thin layers giving uniform corrosion, e.g. in resistors prodn. A vacuum-deposited 1 micron copper layer is also provided between the organic photoresist layer and the thin layer. The copper dissolves readily in the acids H2SO4 and HNO3, but is passive in dilute hydrochloric acid.
