PURPOSE:To provide a new composite sintered material capable of exhibiting high functions such as high strength and high toughness and to provide a process for the production of the sintered material. CONSTITUTION:The objective composite sintered material is produced by forming and sintering ultrafine composite powder selected from the following components (a), (b) and (c) and comprising the atomic groups or clusters of a different kind of compound having a dimension of about 5-50nm dispersed in particles having an average particle diameter of about 50-500nm. (a) An ultra-fine composite powder produced by using SiC as a matrix and dispersing at least one kind of compound selected from AlN, B4C, etc., into the matrix, (b) an ultra-fine composite powder produced by using Si3N4 as a matrix and dispersing at least one kind of compound selected from AlN, B4C, etc., into the matrix and (c) an ultrafine composite powder produced by using AlN as a matrix and dispersing at least one kind of compound selected from SiC, B4C, etc., into the matrix. A composite sintered material can be produced by irradiating raw material gas with composite laser consisting of a combination of laser beams having different wavelengths, microwave, etc. |
