[Also in Division B4] A roller table for conveying workpieces 5 which are to be severed by cutting tool or tools 3, 4 moving with the workpiece, has its rollers 9, 10, 11 recessed over those parts which are crossed by the path of the cutting tool or tools. The workpiece may be a slab, sheet, strip or bar of metal or plastic and is particularly described as the product of a continuous casting process to be severed by a cutting torch. Two cutting torches 3, 4 move inwardly to effect the cutting whilst in another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown) a single torch is used. Alternatively the cutting tool may be a plasma torch, electron beam, an ultrasonic cutting tool or high speed liquid or gas jets. The rollers may be solid or hollow and may consist of spaced parts mounted on an axle. A detachable protective covering of copper may be applied to rollers.</p> |
