The winch operates on two or more cables (17). The winch has a cable winding drum (12) having distinct winding zones. A motor (13) drives the drum and a mechanism (15) is provided to guide the cables. The cable guide can be displaced parallel to the drum. The cable guide has a mobile carriage (20) that is coupled to a device (38) to detect the total force applied to the cables (17). The detector delivers data to a microprocessor that controls the operation of the winch.
