A laser beam (3) is directed down a central fibre optic (4) and impinges on a mirror (15) which directs it to the wall of the tube (2). The impact zone (17) of the beam is directed to follow the required path by a driving unit (6). This slides along the tube, taking the optic with it, driven by an external system. The unit consists of an alternator-like assembly of stator (11) and rotor (19) which maintains its position along the central axis (X1-X1) by slides (7, 8) moving along the inside of the tube (2). The rotor is equipped with blades (20, 21) arranged around its periphery. These cause the rotor to turn under the influence of a current of gas (F1). The effect of the rotating mirror and the longitudinal movement of the unit is to cause the laser beam to follow the required helical path. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cleans interior of variety of objects from newly manufactured tubes to works of art, but particularly for metallic tubes with diameter of less than 40mm and length of over 15m.
