PURPOSE:To obtain high contrast without losing whiteness of the display by laminating several layers of different refractive indices to form a light-reflecting layer. CONSTITUTION:This element consists of a light-absorbing layer 1, reflecting layer 2, supporting substrate 3, and display layer 4 comprising a material to control scattering of light successively laminated. The reflecting layer 2 consists of several layers having high transmittance and different refractive indices. Refractive indices of adjacent layers are different from each other. As for the reflecting layer 2 comprising several layers of high transmittance and different refractive indices, it is preferable to use a picture image material having controlled refractive index, metal oxide, and air considering the value of refractive indices. By forming the reflecting layer 2 as described, the light entering in this reflection-type display element is reflected on every interfaces of several layers having different refractive indices so that the total reflectance of the element can be improved. Thus, a bright white display can be obtd. |
