<p>A patterned medium having a dot pattern for enabling a recording density to be improved is provided. The patterned medium includes a base substrate having a plurality of tracks, a plurality of dots composed of recording materials arrayed and formed along each of the tracks at a constant period, and isolation areas where the dots are physically isolated with each other. When the magnitude of a phase error from the reference value between a first periodic pattern of the dot row on one of mutually adjacent tracks in a first area beginning with a predetermined trigger position on each of the tracks and a second periodic pattern of the dot row on the other track is not more than a predetermined threshold and the magnitude of the phase error becomes zero, the phase of the first periodic pattern is deviated from that of the second periodic pattern by a predetermined offset amount.</p> |
