It is intended to provide a remedy and a diagnostic for a brain disease t ypified by cerebral infarction. Namely, a remedy for a mitochondrial dysfunc tion brain disease characterized by comprising a combination of (A) a .delta .-aminolevulinic acid represented by the following general formula (1), its derivative or a salt thereof with (B) an iron compound: R2R1NCH2COCH2CH2COR3 (1) wherein R1 and R2 independently represent each a hydrogen atom or an al kyl, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryl or aralkyl group; and R3 represents a hydrox y, alkoxy, acyloxy, alkoxycarbonyloxy, aryloxy, aralkyloxy or amino group. |
