<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a natural tone correction suited to a human being's visual sense with high precision in an image formation device. <P>SOLUTION: A test pattern is formed when turning the power on, or printing sheets of the number predetermined, or being demanded by users. Test patterns with different densities are formed according to an image formation processing. In the case of a printing processing, the test pattern is formed using a dither pattern corresponding to the printing processing. In the case of a copy processing, the test pattern is formed using the dither pattern corresponding to the copy processing. The density of the test pattern is detected, and then the density value is converted into a luminance or a dot area ratio. Based on the luminance or the dot area ratio, a γ correction table is corrected.
