PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source for scanners which can be manufactured easily and can suppress the illuminance on both end parts of an illumination region being smaller than that in a middle part of the illumination region while preventing the size from becoming large. SOLUTION: The light source for scanners includes a slender organic EL element 13 extended linearly over the entire length. The organic EL element 13 comprises a transparent electrode 19, an organic EL layer 20, and a counter electrode 21. The organic EL element with the organic EL layer 20 formed between the transparent electrode 19 and the counter electrode 21 serves as a light-emitting portion 27. The light-emitting portion 27 has an entire length shorter than the length of the region to be illuminated. When voltage is applied between the transparent electrode 19 and the counter electrode 21, both end parts 27a of the light-emitting portion 27 have a higher luminance than a middle part 27b.
