PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformize a mixing state of fuel and air within a cavity, even if the magnitude of squish stream is nonuniform in circumferential direction in a fuel direct injection engine. SOLUTION: In a cross-section where a squish stream flowing toward a cavity 25 from the outer periphery of a piston 13 is large because the width W2 of a squish area SA is large, and a squish clearance C2 is small, a collision angleα2 with which fuel injection axis Li2 collides with the cavity 25 is made large, and in a cross-section where squish stream is small because the width of squish area SA is small, and the squish clearance is large, a collision angle with which the fuel injection axis Li2 collides with the cavity 25 is made small. Thereby, because the tendency of the fuel outflow to the outside of the cavity 25 becomes weak in a cross-section where the squish stream is small, and the tendency of the fuel outflow to the outside of the cavity 25 becomes strong in a cross-section where the squish stream is large, a mixing state of fuel and air can be uniformized over the whole area of the cavity 25.
