The machine i.e. sheet shear (1), has a two-part cutting tool (3) comprising upper and lower knives (4, 5) provided with corresponding cutting edges. The upper knife performs a motor-driven stroke movement, and the lower knife is held at a knife base (7) of the machine. The upper and lower knives have corresponding protruding catch sections transverse to a stroke direction of the upper knife. The catch sections are adjoined at the cutting edges of the upper and lower knives. The knife base comprises a recess for the lower knife.
