An apparatus for detecting a tape-paste bank note and a detecting method thereof are provided to detect efficiently a position, a length, and an area of a tape attached on paper money and stocks. An ultrasonic transmission unit(160) includes a transmitter and a receiver facing the transmitter. A limited angle, distance, and interval are maintained between the transmitter and the receiver. The ultrasonic transmission unit generates an ultrasonic wave of a constant frequency and transmits the ultrasonic wave. An ultrasonic reception unit(150) receives the ultrasonic wave from the ultrasonic transmission unit. An analysis/detection unit detects and amplifies the intensity of the signal received from the ultrasonic reception unit, converts the amplified signal to a digital signal, analyzes the intensity of the signal, and detects an attached position, a length, and a width of a tape.
