PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cam copying apparatus which can easily machine a knock pin having high strength, and further to provide the knock pin having a small machining allowance and high strength. SOLUTION: The cam copying apparatus comprises a profile cam 1 (Fig. 5(B), not shown) having an outer peripheral surface corresponding to a machining profile (Fig. 2(A), not shown) of a workpiece W, a synchronizing mechanism 2 for synchronously turning the workpiece W and the profile cam 1 about their axes respectively, a cam tracer 3 which can slidingly contact with the outer peripheral surface of the turning profile cam 1, a unit base 4 which is connected to the cam tracer 3, and can advance and recede in the horizontal direction connecting the rotational axes of the workpiece W and the profile cam 1 according to the position of the sliding contact of the cam tracer 3 with the profile cam 1, a tool unit 5 which is mounted on the unit base 4, and can advance and recede with respect to the unit base 4 in the same direction as the advancing and receding direction of the unit base 4, and a pencil grinder (tool, grinding tool) 6 which is mounted on the tool unit 5, and is turned about its own axis.
