PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clear coating liquid which does not leave an uncoated part and does not cause coating uneveness at the surface of a base material in on-site coating and does not impair the characteristics of the color, patterns or the like of the surface of the base material, and also to provide a coating method, and further to provide a photocatalyst-carrying structural body using the coating method. SOLUTION: In the coating method for forming a colorless transparent coating film on the surface of the basic material, a coating liquid contains a pigment which develops a color in a basic region and becomes colorless in a neutral region, a basic dispersion comprising a titanium oxide photocatalyst, and a pH modifier. By setting a pH in the basic region, the color development of the coating liquid becomes vivid and the coating uneveness and coating omission while coating are easily visually recognized, and a porous film derived from a basic dispersion does not prevent the evaporation of the pH modifier and decoloration after coating is facilitated.
