<p>A fishing tool [10] for fishing sucker rods [12] from a subterranean well [14]. A body of the tool [10] is a machined top piece [16], a machined barrel piece [18] and normally a machined bottom piece [20] that all thread together. The bottom piece [20] preferably retains a curved cast metal slip [22] movable within grooves [44] milled internally into the body. The slip [22] moves upward to admit a rod [12] into the tool [10] and moves downward to capturing the rod [12] in the tool [10]. A lower end [52] of a side opening [50] provided in the barrel piece [18] is level with an upper shoulder [54] of the slip [22] when the slip [22] is at its lowest position so that the rod [12] engages and is retained by both in the tool [10]. The upper shoulder [54] of the slip [22] can optionally be provided with teeth [82]. The bottom piece [20] can be replaced with a bell [66] and the top piece [16] can be replaced by a prior art fishing tool.</p> |
