STORAGE/PLAYBACK METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MPEG-2 TRANSPORT STREAM BASED ON ISO BASE MEDIA FILE FORMAT

A method and an apparatus for storing and reproducing MPEG-2 transport streams in an ISO(International Organization for Standardization) based media file format are provided to facilitate random access reproduction of MPEG-2 transport streams and improve compatibility between terminals when the MPEG-2 transport streams are stored in the terminals. An MPEG-2 transport stream to be stored is defined as a sample for random access and stored in a mdat box of an ISO based media file format(202). Sample time information, sample position information, sample size information and PMT(Program Map Table) related information of the MPEG-2 transport stream are described in a moov box of the ISO based media file format(204).
