PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method of tubular carbon molecules which yields an ordered arrangement of carbon nanotubes arranged at finer intervals. SOLUTION: A material substrate 10, which is made of a semiconductor such as silicon (Si) and contains iron (Fe) as a catalyst, is melted correspondingly to a modulated heat distribution to deposit iron at positions corresponding to the heat distribution to form a substrate 15. The iron deposited on the substrate 15 is used as a catalyst to grow the carbon nanotube 16. Within the space around the carbon nanotube 16, a fixed layer 18 is formed and polished together with the carbon nanotube 16 to form the tip of the carbon nanotube 16 and an open end 16A on a predetermined plane. The carbon nanotube can be used as a recording apparatus 20 by inserting a magnetic layer 19A made of iron into the tip of the carbon nanotube 16 by forming a thin film 19 made of iron on the fixed layer 18 and polishing it.
