A water-dilutable sol-gel composition (I) is claimed, which is based on the reaction of at least (i) a glycidyloxypropylalkoxysilane, (ii) an aqueous silica sol with over 1 wt.% solids, (iii) as organic acid as hydrolysis catalyst and (iv) n-propyl zirconate, butyl titanate or titanium acetylacetonate as crosslinker, in which the mass ratio of solids in (ii)/(i) is = 0.75. Independent claims are included for (1) preparation of (I); (2) (I) prepared by this process; (3) coatings, layers or 0.1-10 mu m thick corrosion-inhibiting or primer coats obtained from (I); (4) articles with such a coating. |
