PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a token ring access apparatus capable of securing normal communication, by monitoring the maximum circulation time of a token and the generation number of the token and controlling system and a direction for allowing the token to flow, and to provide an access method of the token-ring access apparatus. SOLUTION: The token-ring access apparatus is provided with a token generating part for generating a token, a token transmission part for sending the token generated by the token generating part to a first system ring-type network or a second system ring-type network, and a circulation-type monitoring part for monitoring whether the sent token is returned within previously set prescribed time. When the token sent to the first system ring-type network is not returned within a prescribed time, the token generating part is made to generate a new token and sends the new token to the second system ring-type network; and when the token sent to the second system ring-type network is not returned within a prescribed time, the token generating part is made to generate a new token and sends the new token to the first system ring-type network.
