PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a long seek operation between an alternative recording area and a normal recording area is required in a conventional information recording device in which, each time a defective cluster is detected during recording in the normal recording area, the information to be recorded in the detected cluster is recorded in a track of the alternative recording area. SOLUTION: Data to be recorded in a cluster determined as a non-defective cluster in the normal recording area of the optical disk 1 is temporarily recorded in a data buffer 6, and data to be recorded in the defective cluster is temporarily recorded in an alternative recording data buffer 7. Thereafter, data temporarily recorded in the data buffer 6 is recorded in the normal recording area. The cluster in which data recording has failed during the data recording and the cluster in which verifying processing after recording has failed are detected, and data to be recorded in the detected defective cluster is transferred from the data buffer 6 to the data buffer 7.
