PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unit for supporting rotary member that prevents grease from leaking outside and enabling a rotary member to be stably and continuously rotated over a long period of time, at a fixed rotation precision. SOLUTION: The unit for supporting rotary member comprises a main shaft 8 set upright, bearings 2 and 4 equipped with a stationary ring and a rotating ring respectively, gears G1 and G2 set on each end side of a drive shaft and the main shaft, respectively, a rotary member 32 attached to the other side of the main shaft, and a case 40 housing the bearings and the gears. In this unit for supporting rotary member, relative to the gear disposed in the closest proximity to the rotary member, for preventing foreign matters from infiltrating the inside, an annular slinger 25 is set firmly on the flank 12c, on the gear side of the stationary ring 12 and maintained in stationary condition; the inner circumferential surface 25a of the slinger 25 is positioned a predetermined space L1, separated from the main shaft and is also positioned in a noncontact fashion with the rotating ring 10 and the gears; the portion 8d of the main shaft, which faces the inner circumferential surface of the slinger, is constituted with the diameter widened more from the outer circumference of the main shaft toward the inner circumferential surface of the slinger 25; and the portion of the main shaft is provided with a recessed continuous air groove 8m, extending over the whole circumference.
