PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a focused image while reducing time and effort required for focusing even when defocusing arises due to vibration. SOLUTION: Input images observed by an optical system 103 are successively stored in an image memory 107. The input images stored in the image memory 107 are calculated to find focusing degree by a focusing degree calculating section 111. The focusing degrees are stored in a focusing degree storage section 112. A focus determination processing section 113 compares the focusing degree of a past input image stored in the focusing degree storage section 112 with the focusing degree of a current input image calculated by the focusing degree calculating section 111. On the basis of the result of the comparison, the processing section 113 determines the focus of the input image, thereby determining whether or not defocusing due to vibration occurs in the input image.
