PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorine-containing polymer that can reduce by-products, can easily produce a polymer having a high molecular weight and being easily soluble in a solvent and permits the adjustment of the fluorine content and the structure of the main chain in a wide range. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a fluorine-containing polymer, a fluorine-containing compound having, in a molecule, two or more terminal fluorine-containing vinyl groups directly connected to an oxygen atom and a compound having two or more groups represented by -XH (wherein X is an oxygen or sulfur atom) are subjected to an addition polymerization. A fluorine-containing polymer having a recurring unit represented by the general formula (i) is also disclosed. In the general formula, Rf<SB>1</SB>represents a perfluoroalkyl group, Rf<SB>2</SB>and Rf<SB>3</SB>are each a fluorine atom or a perfluoro alkoxy group and the Rf<SB>1</SB>, Rf<SB>2</SB>and Rf<SB>3</SB>may together form a ring, X is an oxygen or a sulfur atom and L is a divalent organic group.
