PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head device of a helical scan system in which contact of a tape and a head is kept satisfactorily even if the tape is run for a long time, thereby C/N during reproduction is improved, while a head sliding plane is not contaminated in tape running. SOLUTION: The magnetic head device comprises: at least two or more magnetic heads recording/reproducing data on/from a magnetic tape; a cylinder mounting the magnetic head and rotated in the prescribed direction; and a head projection window provided on the rotary cylinder to project the magnetic head from an outer peripheral plane of the rotary cylinder, wherein the magnetic head and the head projection window are attached so that distance between a head window end part of a rear side and a rear part end of the magnetic head installed at the most rear part viewed from cylinder rotation direction becomes wider than distance between a window end part of a front part side and a front part end of the magnetic head installed at the most front part viewed from cylinder rotation direction.
