PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain proper image quality by making the film thickness of liquid developer on a developing roller after contact compaction more uniform. SOLUTION: The width W<SB>CPR</SB>of compaction rollers 18Y, 18M, 18C and 18K is set to be larger than the width W<SB>DR</SB>of corresponding developing rollers 17Y, 17M, 17C and 17K. The width W<SB>DR</SB>of the developing rollers 17Y, 17M, 17C and 17K is set to be larger than the width W<SB>AR</SB>of corresponding anilox rollers 24Y, 24M, 24C and 24K. The respective compaction rollers come into contact with the respective developing rollers. By setting the width of the respective rollers, in such a way, generation of nip reservoir of the liquid developer immediately in front of a nip part between the developing roller, and the compaction roller is suppressed at both right and left ends of the developing roller.
