PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens drive unit that can be made more compact by reducing the disposition area of a member on a plane perpendicular to the lens driving direction. SOLUTION: The lens drive unit includes: driving means 12, 13, and 14, by which a lens holder 7 holding the lens L3 is driven in the direction of the optical axis of the lens L3; weights 11b and 12 functioning as counter balance for the lens holder 7; and a lever 11 having an acting point 11c on which the lens holder 7 abuts and an operating point 11b to which the weights 11b and 12 are attached, connecting the lens holder 7 and weights 11b and 12, and disposed so as to be turnable in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the lens L3.
