PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is capable of switching a long heater and a short heater in the heat roller of a fixing section, without recognizing the width of a recording paper which is actually fixed. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, when printing execution is instructed, the temperature control of the heat roller is started and when the difference between the temperature Tb of the end portions of the heat roller and the temperature Ta of the central portion of the heat roller is larger than a predetermined threshold To, the long heater is turned off and then, it is judged whether or not the temperature Ta of the central portion is lower than a fixing temperature Tα, to control on and off of the short heater, so that the temperature of the heat roller is maintained at the fixing temperature (steps 101 to 106). On the other hand, when there is no difference between the temperature Tb of the end portions and the temperature Ta of the central portion, the short heater is turned off and then, it is judged whether or not the temperature Ta of the central portion is lower than the fixing temperature Tα, to control on and off of the long heater, so that the temperature of the heat roller is maintained at the fixing temperature (steps 107 to 110).
