PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which prevents non-lighting during low temperature, and obviates the occurrence of sense of incongruity in image quality. SOLUTION: A low-temperature luminance characteristic is improved by making a controlled variable smaller at a low temperature in performing control of a back light, such as a liquid crystal A1. The liquid crystal display device is characterized in that, in a liquid crystal television and display for controlling the luminance of the back light according to the feature of the video signal, the stable video can be provided without the sense of incongruity by making the contributing ratio of back light control during low temperature lower than that during ordinary temperature or high temperature of the ambient temperature.
