A substantially square voice coil motor actuator 100 for a mobile device comprises a coil 111, magnets 123, bobbin 121 or driving unit and bobbin holder 110 arranged such that the driving unit or bobbin with central hollow section is inserted into the bobbin holder such that the sides of the holder are not touching the bobbin. The device further comprises a pair of suspension wires 125 arranged such that they surround the bobbin each with one bend matched to diagonally opposite corners of the bobbin and its holder fitted at one end of the central hollow section of the bobbin, whilst a pair of elastic biasing support plates 126 is fitted at the other, the complete arrangement of one pair of suspension wires and one pair of support plates acting with opposing forces to maintain the bobbin in correct alignment within the bobbin holder. There are independent claims for the voice coil motor arranged such that the holder contains the magnets and the bobbin the coil (claim 2) and vice versa (claim 1). The device may further comprise holder lids, casing, image sensor, and the bobbin preferably contains a camera objective lens 130. The suspension wires may be bent to form an L-shape, a U-shape or a rectangle. |
