摘要 A navigation system capable of recognizing a tunnel length and a method thereof are provided to promote safety driving by detecting the positions of vehicles and supplying route information according to the detected positions. A navigation system capable of recognizing a tunnel length includes a storage unit(100), a GPS unit(110), a speed sensing unit(120), a control unit(130), a display unit(140), and a sound output unit(150). The storage unit stores map data including information on the tunnel length. The GPS unit extracts the current coordinates of vehicles by receiving position information. The speed sensing unit detects the driving speeds of the vehicles. The control unit detects the position of the vehicles in the tunnel by calculating the driving distance from an entrance of the tunnel according to the detected driving speeds when the vehicles enter the tunnel. The display unit displays the map data and the path information according to the control of the control unit. The sound output unit outputs the sound for the path information according to the control of the control unit.
