A protection method of an optical pickup is provided to reduce a gain of determining an actuator driving force of the optical pickup device when the detected driving force exceeds the permissible range, thereby preventing melt and crack of a lens of the optical pickup device. A protection method of an optical pickup comprises the steps of: detecting driving force of an optical pickup device(S10); judging whether the detected driving force exceeds a first permissible value(S11); adjusting a gain of the driving force when the detected driving force exceeds the first permissible value; and stopping the operation of the optical pickup device and ejecting a tray when the detected driving force exceeds a second permissible value higher than the first permissible value(S21).
