A portable terminal for rejecting receipt of a call by using speech recognition and a method thereof are provided to increase user convenience by rejecting a call to be received via the speech without using a physical force. A method of a portable terminal for rejecting receipt of a call by using speech recognition comprises the following several steps. The portable terminal stores speech information for determining whether the portable terminal rejects receipt of the call(S110). If the portable terminal receives a call, the portable terminal switches to a speech recognition mode(S120,S130). If speech signals inputted in the speech recognition mode is identical to those stored at the portable terminal, the portable terminal transmits a call receipt rejection notice message to the other side(S140,S170,S180).
