PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that can display an image with high resolution with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The image display device displays an image by scanning an irradiation objective surface S with a beam light modulated according to image signals. The device is equipped with a light source unit 101G for supplying the beam light, a scanning unit for scanning the beam light from the light source unit 101G, and a condensing optical system LM1 for condensing the beam light, wherein the scanning unit is equipped with a reflecting mirror 202 for reflecting the beam light, and the condensing optical system LN1 forms a beam waist BW at a position farther from the reflecting mirror 202 than the middle position M between the reflecting mirror 202 and the irradiation objective surface S.
