METHOD FOR TREATING WASTE WATER WITH AEROBIC MICROORGANISM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating waste water with an aerobic microorganism using a biological reaction tank unclogged with a granular substrate, capable of assuring a continuous operation at a low running cost with a high decomposition capacity per volume and a low load for the operation.

SOLUTION: The waste water to be treated is sprinkled from above the space in the reaction tank and passes down through a pile consisting of the microorganism carrier particle whose diameter is below 15 mm and density below 0.1 g/cm3and which is not submerged in the water. Then the waste water is stored in a rundown tank and a part of the waste water is circulated. For regeneration, artificially generated strong air flow is made to pass through the pile of the carrier particle upwardly from below in the opposite direction. Such a regeneration is carried out at prescribed intervals.
