摘要 994,066. Cathode-ray storage tubes. MULLARD Ltd. June 28, 1962 [Sept. 7, 1961], No. 32248/61. Heading H1D. A charge storage tube comprises an electron gun, a target having an uninterrupted secondary emissive storage layer T on a conductive backing S, and an electron collector adjacent the target. Writing is effected by deflecting the electron beam in a focused condition over a first path, the form of which is representative of input signals. Reading is effected by scanning the beam, in a constant current focused condition, over a second path of raster form which intersects the first path at a plurality of spaced points, and with potentials such that the secondary emission ratio is greater than one, to obtain an output signal from target backing S, or from the electron collector. The storage layer T may be of mica, writing being effected with a beam energy producing a secondary emission ratio greater than one, or layer T may be of B.I.C. material, e.g. zinc sulphide or magnesium fluoride. As shown in Fig. 5B, the target T is initially stabilized at 0V, and a written oscillograph trace W is charged positively to +5V. After one or more initial reading scans R, all elements in the path of the reading beam are charged to a maximum of say 10V positive with respect to adjacent target elements. Repeated read-outs are possible because during each reading scan, and before the next, secondary electrons are redistributed to some extent, but only go to the most positive target elements, so that the points PI-P4 of intersection of the writing and reading paths drift negatively to say 14V, and so give rise to an output signal during the next read scan when they are again charged to 15V. To effect erasure and to stabilize the target at 0V, switches Sa, Sb, Sc, Fig. 6, are moved to position 2, to produce a beam energy below the first cross-over. The electron collector may be a mesh 3 mm. from the target or may be a peripheral ring. In an alternative method of operation, each reading scan may be followed by a restabilizing scan or flood as described in Specification 994,065.
