<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a speed with excellent responsiveness to effectuate engine brake based on a manual operation, and to secure sufficient engine brake force, in a drive unit having a continuously variable transmission part and a multi-step transmission part. <P>SOLUTION: This controller for the drive unit for a vehicle allowing selection between the first speed change mode for setting an overall gear ratio determined by respective gear ratios in the continuously variable transmission part and the multi-step transmission part, based on a travel condition of the vehicle, and the second speed change mode for setting the overall gear ratio, based on a signal for effectuating a power source brake, is provided with a multi-step gear ratio limiting means for reducing the number of the gear ratios in the multi-step transmission part set when the second speed change mode is selected, than that when the first speed change mode is selected, and the overall gear ratio is set based on the gear ratio of the multi-step transmission part set by the multi-step gear ratio limiting means and the gear ratio of the continuously variable transmission part, when the second speed change mode is selected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
