PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work arm of a hydraulic shovel, which is formed of a plurality of hollow blocks, to thereby improve the strength thereof, and facilitate maintenance etc. in the same. SOLUTION: A boom 11 of the hydraulic shovel 1 is formed of a plurality of hollow blocks 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. The hollow blocks 12 to 17 have outward-directed protruding connection flanges 12F, 13E, 13F, 14E, 14F, 15E, 15F, 16E, 16F, 17E, and two of the connection flanges adjacent to each other are connected together with bolts and nuts 25. Thus each flange can function as a reinforcing rib of the boom 11, and contributes to enhanced strength of the boom 11. Further, even after assembly of the boom 11, by separating the hollow blocks 12 to 17 from each other, inspection, repairing, etc. of the interior of the boom are facilitated.
