PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using liquid developer and achieving efficient cleaning for a developing roller or the like having an elastic surface. SOLUTION: An elastic roller 71 such as the developing roller, in the image forming apparatus, functions to develop a latent image formed on an image carrier. In an image forming process, toner evenly dispersed on carrier is flocculated on the surface side of the elastic roller 71 by compaction. The image forming apparatus is provided with a cleaning blade 72 in order to remove the flocculated toner. When it is assumed that an angle formed by the contact surface of the cleaning blade 72 to a perpendicular line perpendicular to the generating line of the elastic roller 71 at a pressing and contact-sliding point where the tip of the cleaning blade 72 presses and slides in contact with the elastic roller 71 isθ, and an angle formed by the rising shape of the deformed part of an elastic surface layer formed by making the cleaning blade 72 press and slide in contact with the elastic roller 71 and elastically deforming the elastic surface layer with the perpendicular line isα, they are set to satisfy relationα>θ.
