<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of displaying a composite video in which video and partial video are freely arranged and displayed. <P>SOLUTION: The video display device comprises a video information acquisition part which acquires video information for displaying a video; a partial video information acquisition part which acquires partial video information for displaying a partial video of the video; a composite video information generation part which generates composite video information, wherein the video and the partial video are arranged and displayed, by selecting either a split screen display method or a picture-in-picture method; and a composite video display part which displays a composite video which is a video according to the composite video information. By using this video display device, the whole video and the partial video can be displayed on a single screen. Furthermore, a lay-out of the composite video is automatically determined by arrangement display information produced, on the basis of an aspect ratio of the video and the display, without forcing the user to do special operations.
