PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric display device having an overlay display function and a function of displaying different contents on a front and a reverse side, not to mention a both-side display function by not preparing VRAMs individually for the top and reverse sides, but providing only a VRAM for one side. SOLUTION: Display data stored in a display data storage unit are given discrimination information defining display of the same contents at a front-side display part and a reverse-side display part or display of different contents at the front-side display part and reverse-side display part, and a memory for display has a first storage area and a second storage area corresponding to a dot matrix array of the front-side display part or reverse-side display part. When the same contents are displayed at the front-side display part and reverse-side display part, display data expanded in the first storage area and display data expanded in the second storage area are superposed one over the other and displayed at the front-side display part and reverse-side display part. When different contents are displayed at the front-side display part and reverse-side display part, the display data expanded in the first storage area are displayed at the front-side display part and the display data expanded in the second storage area are displayed at the reverse-side display part.
